Welcome CHBA - Alberta President

At the Annual General Meeting held at BUILD 2009 in Jasper, delegates welcomed new CHBA - Alberta President Deep Shergill. Shergill is President of Prominent Homes in Calgary and has been an active member of the CHBA – Calgary Region since the 1990s where he served as President in 2007/08. He was appointed as Vice President of CHBA – Alberta in 2008 after serving on the provincial Board of Directors. Nationally, Shergill is recognized as one of the country’s key membership recruiters. Fire Alarm Seminar

The Canadian Fire Alarm Association will be presenting a technical seminar in Calgary on October 21, 2009. Presentations will bring attendees up to date with current industry regulations, fire alarm design, and verification requirements. To register, please click here.

Cold Weather Concrete Practices

With winter just around the corner, special consideration should be given to cold weather concrete practices. Last year, CHBA - Edmonton Region created a very good guideline regarding these practices that could also be used in other parts of Alberta. For more information, please click here.

Building Code Correction

Some users of the Alberta Building Code 2006 have indicated that the replacement pages for 06-BCE-004, Errata Package #4, contain an incorrect reference in Sentence 9.10.15.3.(1). The reference may read, "Except for the purposes of applying Sentence 9.10.15.5.(1)...", but should actually read, "...applying Sentence 9.10.15.5.(11)...". Please note this typographical error has been corrected and the corrected pages can now be downloaded by clicking here.

Welcome Built Green™ Alberta Coordinator

CHBA - Alberta is pleased to announce the recent hire of Sue Pekonen as the new Built Green™ Alberta Coordinator. Sue will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Built Green™ Alberta program and will provide administrative support for the Built Green™ Alberta Advisory Council. Sue is experienced in Program Management and Marketing and believes in the value of Built Green™ homes. She is delighted to serve CHBA - Alberta in her new role!

BUILD 2009 Highlights

CHBA - Alberta's annual conference was held September 17 -20 in Jasper. We were pleased to see such tremendous support from sponsors, trade show exhibitors and delegates at the annual event.

Keynotes and workshops by Angus Watt and Cameron Herold were very well received by those in attendance. Both speakers have provided links to their presentations.
