Safety for New Home Salespeople, 2nd Edition
A Guide for Builders and Salespeople

The Canadian Home Builders' Association - Alberta (CHBA - Alberta) is committed to encouraging safe worksite practices in residential construction.  Worksite safety extends beyond the construction site - but into show homes and sales centers as well.

In January 2002, a new home salesperson in Red Deer was brutally attacked while on the job. Following that attack, other situations occurred in the Alberta real estate industry, including an assault and theft involving a real estate agent in September 2002.

In early spring 2003, a new home salesperson was sexually assaulted. While Police emphasize that attacks are not always sexually motivated and, when working alone, both men and women are at risk. Attackers are often motivated by theft and may carry a weapon.

CHBA - Alberta takes the safety of new home salespeople seriously and wants to encourage sales people and builders to adopt safe work practices. To support that goal, in 2003, CHBA - Alberta developed a safety guide which was distributed to all builder members and their salespeople. As a member benefit of One Voice - One Industry, CHBA - Alberta has been able to update, reproduce and redistribute this booklet.  The booklet includes sections on: Tips for Salespeople; Tips for Builders; a guideline to the Working Alone Legislation; Community Resources and more.

Booklets were sent to builder members in October 2007 and additional copies are available for order here.
