Working for You

CHBA - Alberta has being working collaboratively with local CHBAs and industry partners to improve the residential construction industry in a proactive, strategic way while ensuring all associations are speaking with one voice.

The association strives to keep members updated on issues being addressed at the provincial level; educate members on the importance of the issues; communicate the expected outcome and impact on members businesses; and inform members of next steps being taken.  Members can expect this progress update in the mail over the next week.  President Laberge encourages members to take time to review the short piece.  Adding, "I am very proud of the work the volunteers and CHBA - Alberta staff are doing on behalf of the industry.  The challenge is communicating our wins in a way that gets heard.  The piece you receive in the mail is one way we can accomplish this."

President Laberge also took the opportunity to update CHBA - Calgary Region members at a recent dinner meeting.  Points from his presentation are posted on the CHBA - Alberta website.

Please Note: Invoices were sent to general members for the Added Value Charge (AVC) last week .  The AVC is a fee in addition to membership dues that was approved at the 2006 Annual General Meeting (AGM). It is charged to members to pay for additional services that are now being provided by CHBA - Alberta.

2006 Alberta Building Code on CD

The 2006 Alberta Building Code (ABC) sets out technical provisions for the design and construction of new buildings. It also applies to the alteration, change of use and demolition of existing buildings. The ABC complements the 2006 Alberta Fire Code, and both are indispensable for building officials, educators and professionals in the construction industry.

New information has been added to the 2006 ABC to make it clearer, easier to apply to existing buildings, and more accommodating to innovation. It explains the objectives that the Code's provisions are intended to achieve and describes the functions that a building or its components must perform to fulfill these objectives.

The CD-ROM version of the 2006 ABC is now available for purchase from the on the website and will allow users to easily navigate between the various Parts of the ABC.  Technical changes or additions made relative to the 2005 edition of the National Building Code of Canada are indicated.
