Details are a Little Green
EnerVision, CHBA - Alberta's energy efficiency arm, feels the weekend government announcement can only benefit Alberta members and will help EnerVision build upon its existing programs. Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn unveiled the Harper government's plan to invest approximately $300 million over four years to promote smarter energy use. The ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiative will encourage Canadian homeowners, businesses and industry to use energy more wisely. The ecoENERGY components are specifically designed to provide incentives to raise the bar for new construction and to continue collaboration with industry on efficiency improvements. EnerVision is now working on the details of the announcement to determine their effect on builders and renovators and will provide more information as soon as the details are confirmed.
Building the Plan
CHBA - Alberta Management Team members continue to prepare the association's 2007 Business Plan, following a two-day strategic planning session in Canmore that was led by Dr. Al Coke of Virginia. Members of the CHBA - Alberta Board of Directors agreed on six strategic goals for the association, ranging from addressing the skilled labour shortage, to the image of the industry to energy efficient housing. The Business Plan will be reviewed by the Board on February 13 and then it will be shared with all CHBA - Alberta members. CHBA - Alberta Executive Officer Grant Ainsley calls the plan "a huge step forward” for the association. He says the plan's results will be measurable and will show members where funding from the One Voice - One Industry initiative will be spent and what value members will receive.

Info on OVOI
In about a week from now, each member of CHBA - Alberta will receive a letter from President Ralph Hutchinson with detailed information on how the One Voice - One Industry initiative will work. Builders will be invoiced $50 for each single and multi-family permit taken out. The first invoices for all builder members will be issued in late February for permits taken out this month. Non-builder members will be charged between $100 and $300, depending on the size of their organization. This will be an annual charge, but invoices won't be sent until later this year. 25% of all funds will be rebated to the five local associations in Alberta, allowing them to do an even better job serving their members at a local level. For more information on One Voice - One Industry, please contact Executive Officer Grant Ainsley.
