In the Path of King Ralph
Vince Laberge, the current President of CHBA - Edmonton Region, will succeed Ralph Hutchinson as the next President of CHBA - Alberta. Laberge is a partner in WendyLynn Custom Homes and was unanimously elected as association Vice President at the provincial Board of Directors meeting last Wednesday in Red Deer. He is also currently the Chair of CHBA's Urban Council, a group that deals primarily with issues affecting Canada's largest cities. Laberge brings to the position a lengthy list of volunteer accomplishments in addition to his work with the association. He has held numerous positions with the Edmonton Real Estate Board and the Federation of Community Leagues in Edmonton.
Don`t Waste the Chance
Members have one more opportunity to provide direct input to the way waste materials will be handled in the future on housing sites in the province. This Friday morning a workshop will be held in Edmonton that will be hosted by CHBA - Alberta. The provincial government wants to know what our industry thinks about ways to reduce the amount of waste being unnecessarily disposed into landfills from residential construction sites. Both the association and government feel 50% of the waste from the construction of a new or renovated home should be recycling in the coming years. If you would like to attend the Friday event, please email us to let us know and get details. A similar session was held in Calgary yesterday and tremulously positive comments were received from the participants. A full report on waste reduction strategies from Alberta construction sites can be downloaded by clicking here.
Benefits of TILMA
The Trade Industry Labour Mobility Agreement - TILMA - was signed by Alberta and British Columbia Premiers in April 2006 and came into effect on April 1, 2007. Over a two-year period, the Agreement will create the second largest economic region in Canada, after Quebec and Ontario. It commits the two Provinces to eliminate barriers that restrict trade, investment and labour mobility between them by April 2009. This is a step in addressing the Strategic Goal of Ensuring a Sustainable Workforce.
