MGA: Status as of July 28, 2017
• The Province of Alberta released a number of key draft Regulations on July 24, 2017 (found here) which directly impact our industry including Off-Site Levies, Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks, Subdivision & Development and COPTER. BILD Alberta’s MGA Review Committee will be reviewing these in detail in the coming week to develop positions and messaging for members. We will need your help in making some crucial changes to these regulations so please stay tuned for updates and requests for advocacy on behalf of the association.
• BILD Alberta continues to be in regular discussion with the Province regarding the Provincial Transportation Levy. This is a very complex issue that requires considerable discussion amongst numerous stakeholders. We have requested that the Province set aside the time necessary to craft the regulation. Click here to review the recent submission prepared by CHBA – Alberta and UDI Alberta.
• No new information has been provided on City Charters despite our repeated requests. It is anticipated that the draft City Charters will be released within the next month though this has not been guaranteed.
• On May 17, 2017 the Province passed Bill 8 – An Act to Strengthen Municipal Government. With the exception of the Provincial Transportation Levy, the majority of changes related to proposals highlighted in the Continuing the Conversation discussion paper released in November 2016.
