2010 President's Messages
The CHBA - Alberta President is elected yearly and his or her term runs from September 18 to October 31 of the following year.
As the head of the association's Board of Directors, the President speaks on behalf of the Board on a wide range of issues and meets with government representatives and stakeholders across the country.
Deep Shergill, President of CHBA - Alberta
On September 18, 2009 Deep Shergill, President of Prominent Homes in Calgary took over the reigns from out-going president of Canadian Home Builders' Association - Alberta (CHBA - Alberta) Bruce Galts, Vice President of Galko Homes of Lethbridge.
Shergill has been an active member of the CHBA – Calgary region since the 1990’s. He recently completed his term as past president of CHBA - Calgary Region. In fall of 2008, he was elected as Vice President of CHBA – Alberta after serving on the provincial Board of Directors for the past year. Nationally, Deep is recognized as one of the country’s key membership recruiters.
Deep was born in India in 1956 and came to Canada in 1969. He spent a year in Toronto, and then moved to Calgary where he attended grades 9 through 12 and then continued on to Mount Royal College and the University of Calgary. His interests however lay in something other than academics. In 1981 during the era of Multiple Unit Residential Building (MURB) program, he embarked on a career in the construction industry. His first set of projects were the construction of three apartment buildings in Calgary.
In 1983, Deep moved to California where his experience grew by building multi-family projects. In 1990 he returned to Calgary and started Prominent Homes. After running Prominent Homes for a couple of years, he joined forces with his brother and a cousin to operate Park Green Homes.
Shergill decided to go back out on his own and re-established Prominent Homes in 2001, which has seen substantial growth due to the company's commitment to customer service and quality workmanship.
As a result, Prominent Homes has developed a solid reputation for providing buyers with outstanding customer service and quality crafted homes.
